Embracing the time off from classes over spring break, CBA Golf took a trip out west to Turtleback Mountain Golf and Resort in Elephant Butte, New Mexico. The team played a unique, challenging course that helped them improve their game.
“We were very fortunate to be gifted the opportunity to travel and play a quality course, far different from the style we are used to playing,” Assistant Coach Doug Gimbar said.
This trip offered great opportunities for the Colts, including meeting the New Mexico State University (NMSU) PGA Golf Management Program. Along with learning about this program, the team had the opportunity to play a nine hole round with the New Mexico State students.
“The opportunity to meet with the NMSU players was really valuable, ” junior Jackson Langella said. “It showed me that a career in golf is much broader than just playing professionally. The experience changed how I view golf by helping me see it as something that can be part of my future in multiple ways. It pushed me to start focusing more on discipline, preparation, and being open to different opportunities as I move toward college.”
After winning the Catholic Schools Challenge here in New Jersey before the trip, the Colts have continued their good play in April. CBA secured the title at the Monmouth County Championship on April 13, led by junior Jack Stamberger, who finished tied for third individually with a 75.
A big part of their success has been the team chemistry and connections that were established on the trip.
“Our trip to New Mexico provided a meaningful opportunity for our players and coaches to build connections that simply can’t be developed on the course alone,” Head Coach Pat Reynolds explained. “The moments and memories we share will last, helping shape more resilient, confident individuals both on and off the course.”
With the Shore Conference Tournament coming up on April 22, the Colts look to continue their momentum by securing another conference crown.
