Prior to the 2026 postseason, CBA Wrestling had three individual state champions across six and a half decades.
Paul Kenny and Bobby Duffy added two more within an hour of each other in Atlantic City on March 14.
Kenny's victory at 126 pounds was his second straight individual state title, after taking the 120 pound victory in 2025. The junior became the first two-time state champion in CBA Wrestling history with a pin of Delbarton’s Tommy Marchetti.
With the pin coming halfway into the second period, Kenny accomplished a winning pin or technical fall in all 11 of his individual postseason bouts. He finished the season 42-1 with his only loss coming against an out-of-state opponent.
“The goal going into the post-season was to either pin or win by technical fall to prove I was no longer the wrestler I was as a freshman,” Kenny told NJ.com after the winning bout.
Duffy's winning moment came early in the title bouts, as the senior won the 144 pound championship. His 14-1 victory came against Delbarton's Ryan DeGeorge, who had won the 2024 individual title.
In his final season as a Colt, Duffy was a dominant force, going unbeaten in 38 New Jersey bouts. He became just the third CBA wrestler to win four consecutive district titles as well.
Duffy ran through the initial rounds of the individuals state tournament, recording three first period pins in the first three rounds and a 6-1 semifinal decision.
“It’s obviously special,” Duffy told NJ.com in AC. “The environment here is special. This is the best state tournament in the country. It’s the best venue in the country. And it feels great to win. My ultimate goal was to get it done here.”
