The Indoor Colts added another chapter to the program legacy on February 20, earning the 28th Non-Public A Indoor State Championship.

CBA ran away with the state title in dominant fashion at the Bennett Indoor Complex, winning by an impressive 67 points. The team claimed four event victories and added eight more podium finishes, showing the depth and consistency of this iteration of championship track.

Senior Luke Hnatt delivered one of the meet’s standout performances, winning both the 1600 and the 3200. His 9:10 time in the 3200 was good for a new meet record.

“I went into the state meet with great confidence and belief in my fitness,” Hnatt said. “I knew what I had to do and that was scoring as many points as possible for my team in order to capture the team state title.”

Senior Ethan McAllister won the high jump at 6-5 and junior Shane Landau took the pole vault at 13-0.

Senior Gavin Marlin was the runner-up in the high jump behind McAllister, while junior Thomas Zawisza and junior Gavin Brunelli were second and third in the pole vault behind Landau.

Junior Gavin Schmitt and senior Ryan Collins followed Hnatt in the 3200 to sweep the podium spots. Senior Wyatt Falkowski took third in the 1600, while senior Matt McInerney finished second in the 800.

This state championship marks the third time in program history that CBA has won at least three consecutive indoor state titles. The prior two times – 1980-1989 and 2011-2020 – the Colts rattled off 10 straight championships.

Not to be outdone, CBA also won an 11th straight and 34th overall indoor state relays title in January. Marlin (high jump, shuttle hurdle relay) and junior Kyle Fischer (4x200, 4x400) were each a part of two event wins. CBA won five events in total, leading to a decisive 28-point overall team victory.

Earlier this season, Christian Brothers was victorious at both the Monmouth County Championship and Shore Conference Championship, which were the 34th and 28th wins in team history, respectively.
