Under new head coach Brian Lynch ‘96, Christian Brothers Academy Basketball has impressed so far this season.
As they return from the holiday break, the Colts have a 6-1 record with all games against non-conference opponents. Recently, the team traveled to Miami, Florida for the Miami Holiday Invitational. CBA lost the opener to Sagemont Prep, but rebounded with a win over ABF Academy.
“We got to play top teams that pushed us to get better,” Avery Lynch ‘27 explained. “It is different from where we are because we kind of know all the kids in the Shore. We grew up playing with them, so we are familiar with their game and how they play. While the Florida teams, we had no idea about them.”
After playing Shore teams in Holmdel and St. Rose next, the Colts will have an upcoming stretch of crucial, high-stakes matchups. CBA will travel on the road to face a talented Bergen Catholic squad, before returning to host the ninth annual Founders Cup game against Red Bank Catholic.
“We have some big games coming up, and we will be ready,” Lynch continued. “We push each other every day in practice, which gets us ready for the games. As a team, we are never satisfied, and with this attitude, it helps us to push our limits.”
Lynch has been a pivotal player for the Colts, averaging fifteen points and five rebounds. Alongside sophomore Izayah Cooper, he has been a catalyst for some high scoring affairs for the Colts.
