Simply put, October was a statement month for CBA Sailing.

After winning the state title and competing in the national championship last spring, the Colts were hungry to prove they are still the team to beat this school year.

The month started with a dominant performance at the League Fall Fleet Championship on October 4 and 5, as CBA rolled to the team’s ninth league title.

In light air conditions, CBA won both A and B Division in the 12-team regatta. In A Division, Christopher Small ‘26 and Christian Diaz ‘28 won four of their six races, while Cole Buczkowski ‘27 and Chris Reed ‘28 won three races in B Division. CBA never finished outside of the top four in any of the 12 races sailed.

The Colts also punched their ticket to the Mid-Atlantic District Fleet Championship for an unmatched 21st time in 23 seasons, including state-best 11 straight seasons. That regatta was held in Toms River as well on October 25 and 26, where CBA turned in program-best performance.

Sailing against teams from New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Virginia, CBA finished second overall, which matches the best-ever finish at a District Fleet Championship.

Small and Diaz finished third in A Division, while Buczkowski and Reed were second in B Division.

The second place finish qualifies the team for the Atlantic Coast Championship, considered the nation’s top regatta of the fall season. It is the second straight qualification for CBA and the third in the last five years.

The ACC regatta will take place on November 8 and 9 at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.

In between the two fleet championships, CBA traveled to Annapolis, Maryland for the Mid-Atlantic District Team Race Championship. Over two days of racing, the Colts finished third overall, narrowly losing a three-way tiebreaker with an identical 12-2 record as the first and second place teams.

Led by skippers Small, Buczkowski, Jules Buczkowski ‘26 and Patrick Kennedy ‘28, the performance at the Team Race Championship is also a best-ever finish for the Colts.

“October was a huge month for the team,” Co-Captain Jules Buczkowski ‘26 said. “Tying for first in Team Race Districts and a second-place finish at Fleet Race Districts are both among the best results in CBA history. After earning a spot at the Atlantic Coast Championship, we look to finish strong before the off-season.”

Earlier this fall, CBA Sailing also won the BBYRA Invitational Regatta, earning the historic Rooster Flag for the eighth time in 10 chances.
