Senior Shane Gadzus grasped Neptune’s Trident and top honors for Christian Brothers Academy, winning the 2022 Pier Pressure Regatta held at Ocean City Music Pier.

The regatta pitted rowers from schools from New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania.

A winter of workouts in the Sprint Barn in the tanks and on the ergs paid off for the Colts at this competition. Racing on ergs pits individual rowers against each other for the best times in 2000 meter races to bring home the win for their teams.

With the best time of the entire field of 98 rowers, Gazdus finished ten seconds ahead of the second place rower in the Boys Youth race. Five CBA rowers placed in the top 10 and 10 more placed in the top 20 in this race. Eighteen CBA rowers had times under seven minutes.

CBA’s John Keavey took second in the Freshman race. Six CBA freshmen finished in the top 10 and 10 freshmen placed in the top 20.

Even the coxswains competed in a 1000 meters Open Challenge. The coxswain race added an element of drama with a close one-two finish, with CBA’s Ryan Daniels edged out by .8 seconds to take second.

This race also marked the inaugural Christian Brothers Challenge Cup against brother school LaSalle College High School. After averaging each of the top eight heavyweight, lightweight and freshmen rowers, the 2022 Challenge Cup was won by CBA.
