No stranger to big time games this time of year, CBA Soccer ready to be back on the turf for the Non-Public A State Tournament. The team hopes for a big end to the season and to add their names to the CBA history books.
“A lot of guys are back from injury and are coming back stronger than ever,” junior Romeo Guida said. “The team is 100 percent ready to take on whoever comes our way.”
With the roster closer to full capacity, the Colts are primed for the upcoming fight for a state title. CBA earned the second seed in the south sectional bracket, currently ranked as the number 15 team in New Jersey.
After dropping a grudge match 1-0 to Manasquan in the Shore Conference Final, the Colts are ready for redemption with this tournament.
“The vibes are back up after our loss in the Shore Conference and we are ready to make our mark on the state during this tournament,” Guida said. “We have a lot to prove now after the Shore Conference and the seniors are ready to leave their legacy on the program."
Given a BYE week, the Colts face RBC in their first game of the sectional tournament on November 5. In the regular season, the Colts shut out the Caseys 6-0 on Keane Field and are ready to put on another display of dominance.
Even with their Shore Conference Championship loss, the Colts turned in a great regular season, posting a record of 15-5-1. Notable victories included a 4-1 win against Red Bank Regional and a 3-1 win against Middletown South.
Another big victory for the boys was against the then-seventh ranked in the state Seton Hall Prep. The Colts shut them out 4-0 with four different goal scorers, including Guida.
With a now fully healthy roster and a newly determined squad, the CBA boys are ready to bring the heat this tournament.
“Be humble, play our game, and get the job done," Guida said when asked about the opening game of the tournament.
With new momentum behind them and a clean slate for the final stretch, the Colts are prepared to lay it all on the line and bring home a title.
