A record-breaking season for Christian Brothers Academy Wrestling has produced some major highlights.

The Colts added two more titles in the past two weeks: the Non-Public A South Sectional and the District 21 Championships.

After earning a first round BYE, Christian Brothers won the state sectional bracket with wins over St. Joseph (Met.) and St. Augustine. It is the first sectional championship since 2013 for the Colts. It advanced CBA to the state championship match against Bergen Catholic, where they put forth a resilient effort in the loss against a talented Crusaders team.

CBA was right back on the mat on February 19 for the District 21 Tournament, where they proved how dominant of a team they could be. Ten CBA wrestlers won their weight classes and three more medaled, leading to a 180-point margin of victory for the Colts. After leading CBA to its first District title since 2016, Coach Billy Ashnault was named District 21 Coach of the Year.

Both the sectional and district victories came after Christian Brothers won the Shore Conference Tournament for the first time since 2016. The Colts defeated A North Division rival Howell in the championship, which was a rematch of the 2016 final.

With team tournaments completed, CBA wrestlers competed in the Region 6 Tournament with berths on the line for the individual state tournament. Ultimately, nine Colts qualified for the individual states down in Atlantic City, beginning on March 4. Junior Alex Nini earned Most Outstanding Wrestler after winning his 120-pound weight class.
