Junior Santiago “Santi” Massone put together an impressive season in the pool this winter, earning the CBA Digital Network’s Swimmer of the Season honors.

In a year defined by strong performances and steady leadership for the Colts, Massone’s biggest highlight came in the 100 fly at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions. He set a new CBA school record at 48.88 seconds, cementing his place among the program’s top swimmers. The race showcased the speed and determination that helped him consistently deliver throughout the season.

While the recognition shows his performances in the water, Massone also credits the example set by past teammates for helping shape his approach to the sport.

“Last year, the seniors really showed inside and outside the pool what it takes to be a leader,” Massone said when asked what the award means to him.

That leadership has become something Massone is now trying to pass on to the younger swimmers on the team. As one of the upperclassmen in the program, he understands the importance of guiding teammates both in practice and at meets.

“I’m really trying to be a role model because a lot of these guys look up to us, which means communicating with them and helping them with their swimming,” Massone explained.

Massone also emphasized the role that his teammates and coaches played in his success this season. He captured individual victories in the 100 fly and 100 backstroke at the Shore Conference Championship, helping lead CBA to a remarkable 35th straight conference title.

He also had a huge night when CBA defeated a top-20 ranked Westfield team, winning both the 100 fly and 100 back, while also helping relay teams win in the 200 medley and 400 freestyle.

“To have [the coaches] and my teammates support on my side was always great to be a part of,” he said.

With a school record already to his name and another season ahead, Massone’s impact on the Colts program continues to grow. His performances in the pool speak for themselves, but his commitment to leadership ensures his influence reaches well beyond the wall.
