After an October that showed CBA Sailing was among the Mid-Atlantic region’s best, November’s results pushed the Colts into the national conversation.

CBA traveled to the Atlantic Coast Championship on November 8-9, sailing against teams from five regions of the country and 10 different states at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.

Christian Brothers proved that they belong among the nation’s best, finishing second overall in a program-best performance. The team reached the podium by outlasting two talented opponents in what came down to the final race of the weekend.

Senior skipper Christopher Small with sophomore crew Christian Diaz won A Division by double digits, putting an exclamation mark on an all-around great weekend for the Colts. It is the first-time ever that a CBA team has won any division at a national-level event.

Small and Diaz won three races on Sunday, helping CBA jump from fourth to second during the course of the final day.

In B Division, junior Cole Buczkowski and sophomore Christopher Reed, adding a stretch of single digit races on Sunday that proved to be crucial to the standings.

The ACC team was rounded out by senior Jules Buczkowski, senior Alton DeOliveria and freshman Alex Pistolakis.

One week earlier, CBA sailed in the Mid-Atlantic Keelboat Championship, racing in four-person Sonars.

After five races on the Long Island Sound, skipper Jules Buczkowski with crews Small, Cole Buczkowski and Patrick Kennedy took second place overall. The runner-up finish qualifies the team for the 2025 High School Keelboat Nationals for the first time in program history.

The Colts will now travel to St. Petersburg, Florida in mid-December to race in the Keelboat Nationals. The regatta will be sailed on Tampa Bay and raced in four-person J/70s.

CBA’s appearance at the Keelboat Nationals will be the second national championship appearance in the calendar year. The Colts qualified for the High School Fleet Race National Championship back in June.
