November is truly when CBA Cross Country shows its muscle.
The Colts picked up three meet titles on consecutive weekends, proving that they are not only the team to beat in New Jersey, but also throughout the entire northeast.
After winning a 34th Non-Public A State Championship on November 8, CBA set its sights on the Meet of Champions on November 15. The Colts opened it up against the best of the best in the state, winning a 28th New Jersey All-Groups title in record fashion.
CBA set a new Holmdel Park course team average record with a 15:40 pace, as four runners finished in the top 10 of the race. Senior Luke Hnatt became the fifth CBA runner to win the race, crossing the line at 15:23. Junior Gavin Schmitt was a solid second place at 15:28.
“I’ve been second so many times, I was second indoor last year, I was second outdoor and I was third here last year at cross country Meet of Champions,” Hnatt told NJ.com. “It’s just really exciting to get out here and finally win a race, a big race at that and it feels good to do it with all these people here and all my friends and family watching.”
Christian Brothers has now won 28 of the possible 52 MOC titles.
There was not much time to rest, however, as the Nike Northeast Regional Championship was held on November 22 at Bowdoin Park in New York. The Colts proved that they were as locked in as ever, winning the meet by a whopping 100 points over the second place team. It is the fourth straight year the CBA has won the Regional.
Hnatt once again led the way for CBA, finishing second in the race, and Schmitt was closely behind in third. All five scorers finished in the top 12 in the team race.
The Northeast Regional victory secures a spot at the Nike Cross Nationals, which will mark the 15th consecutive year that CBA has qualified for the ultimate race.
NXN will be held on December 6 in Portland, Oregon.
