Christian Brothers Academy Track & Field has written its name into the history books once again.
By winning the Distance Medley Relay (DMR) Championship of America at the 2025 Penn Relays, it marks the first time CBA - or any New Jersey school for that matter - has won the Penn Relays DMR for two straight years.
The Colts' victory at Philadelphia’s Franklin Field on April 25 marked the program’s fifth DMR title, solidifying their legacy as one of the premier programs in the nation.?
Seniors Ryan Schmitt, Joe Barrett, Ethan Fianko and junior Wyatt Falkowski formed the powerhouse quartet that dominated the race. Schmitt set the tone with a commanding 3:03.81 split in the 1200-meter leg, followed by Fianko's 49.57 second 400-meter leg, which kept CBA in contention. Falkowski then delivered a 1:56.25 in the 800 meters heading into the final leg. For the second consecutive year, Barrett anchored the team and turned in a 4:09.56 split, securing the win with an overall time of 9.59.17.
This victory not only adds to CBA's history at the Penn Relays, but also underscores the team's dominance in the DMR event. This foursome’s time of 9:59.17 ranks as the ninth-fastest in New Jersey high school history and third fastest all-time at Penn Relays.
Fianko and Barrett also became the first CBA Track runners to win multiple prestigious Penn Relays Wheels.
“It’s an incredible feeling to win back-to-back championships and bring this Penn Relays title to CBA once again,” Fianko said. “We have put in so much work all year and it’s great to see it come all together.”
For Barrett, he has had the honor of celebrating as he crosses the finish line in two straight spring seasons.
“Winning Penn Relays this year, especially back-to-back, was truly special,” Barrett said. “This DMR title is something that sets this team in stone, not only in CBA history, but also in Penn Relays history as we are now part of the few who have ever done it.”
The Colts are the first U.S. high school in 73 years to win this race in consecutive years.
CBA Track previously took home the DMR Penn Relays Wheel in 1985, 1988, 2011 and 2024.
