During another banner season for CBA Cross Country, senior Luke Hnatt rose above the rest, earning his place as the CBA Digital Network’s Runner of the Season and cementing himself as one of the Colts’ all-time greats.

Hnatt became just the fourth Colt in program history to win the individual title at the Meet of Champions, instantly placing him alongside the legends of the CBA’s extensive cross country tradition.

What made this year even more impressive for Hnatt was that this year’s MOC five-man average beat last year’s nationally recognized group, a testament to the team’s strength and Hnatt’s leadership as a competitive anchor.

For Hnatt, greatness has never been just about the individual accolades. While running may seem individualized, he always has a team-first mentality.

“I want to do what I can to get the team to win,” Hnatt said. “We are a brotherhood, all best friends — it’s more like a family than simply just a team.”

His individual victories at the NJSIAA Non-Public A State Championship and A North Division Championship helped CBA capture both those titles as well.

At the Nike Northeast Regional, Hnatt was third overall, leading CBA to a regional title and berth in the Nike Cross Nationals. Of course, Hnatt looks to help bring home the national title on December 6 in Portland, Oregon.

When he talks about running for CBA, Hnatt doesn’t mention the records or victories first. He mentions the Colts that he has run with over the past four years.

“It’s been super special running with this team,” he said. “We're all best friends and we care about each other. It’s a family, these are the guys I’m going to be hanging out with for the rest of my life. I’ll always remember these moments I’ve had- whether it’s winning or losing - it’s always been special. ”

As he prepares for his transition to his next chapter at the University of Virginia, Hnatt is hungry for these last few runs, but he’s also taking time to appreciate the journey.
