After returning to the mountaintop in 2024, CBA Rugby proved that the team was there to stay in 2025.
The Colts won their second consecutive sevens state championship and capped an undefeated season on October 26. With four match wins in the state championship tournament, CBA reached the 20-0 mark for the first time in program history.
The 20-0 record lent itself to a perfect five-for-five in weekend tournaments played. The Colts won regular season tournaments at Union, Morris and St. Augustine, in addition to their home tournament. Their closest match all season proved to be a 19-10 victory against St. Augustine at the CBA tournament.
Jordon Young, Alex Pantone, Austin Scheibell, Ronan O’Grady, Van Jones, Declan O’Grady, and Jack Frazier played in every tournament, but CBA had to use nine other athletes to pick up state regular season series wins.
Will Paterson, Nicholas Briggs, Tommy Heyward, Cole Ryan, and Evan Hauck didn’t play in the last tournament but made significant contributions throughout the season, while Brady Welsh and Fionn Moroney joined the roster in the final weeks to bolster the squad.
Young proved to be the standout on the season, regularly turning in matches with multiple tries.
“The historic nature of this season is not to be underestimated,” Head Coach Pat Moroney said. “The team finished 20-0 in competitive play, but if you add in the preseason wins, it is 25–0. This year marked the 10th season of fall sevens in New Jersey, and while teams have dominated in the past, no team has gone undefeated through the year.”
CBA has now won five state sevens titles in program history. The team will return to the pitch in late February for the spring 15s season.
