Jason Lutz
Jason Lutz is in his 11th year as a varsity sailing coach at CBA in 2025-2026.
Lutz's team is coming off two tremendous years in a row, which saw the Colts win two state championships, a spring league championship, qualify for the Atlantic Coast Championship, and most impressively, qualify for both the 2024 and 2025 National Championships.
During his time as a CBA coach, the Colts have continued to make their mark as the top sailing program in the state. Since 2016, CBA has won four state championships, seven league championships, and seven prestigious BBYRA Invitational Rooster Flags. In addition, the Colts qualified for the 2017, 2024 and 2025 Fleet Race National Championships, as well as four Atlantic Coast Championships. Under Lutz's direction, CBA has also had three Singlehanded National Championship qualifiers, a record five New Jersey High School Sailor of the Year winners, and 44 all-state selections. In 2025, CBA earned seven all-state selections, which is a new state best for a single school year.
A graduate of CBA and the College of Charleston, Lutz has been coaching sailing for the last 15 years. He has also remained active in local, regional, and national competitive sailing, most recently winning the 2024 International Lightning Class North American Championship.
Coach Lutz serves on a number of youth sailing committees, including the Interscholastic Sailing Association (ISSA) National Board and the Club 420 Class National Board. He also acts as the Assistant Director of the New Jersey Interscholastic Sailing Association (NJISA), which governs high school sailing in the state.
