The CBA fencing team turned in a nice performance at the 55-team Cetrulo Tournament last weekend at Drew University.

The Colts finished third overall, just four points behind second place Newark Academy. It was CBA's second best finish at the tournament, after 2018's championship performance.

John Morreale and the saber squad led the way for the team, finishing fourth in that division. The saber squad finished the morning with a 19-2 record. Max Ferraro, after being out all last season with an injury, fenced strong in the B position going 6-1 in the morning. The C position duo of Zack Miller and Alex Sanfilippo-Scherer went undefeated during the morning session.

In the epee squad division, Christopher Drew went 7-0 in the morning round and Jorge Gana fenced all 14 bouts and finished 12-2. Daniel Francis and David Sprague also picked up wins in the epee division. The epee squad finished a solid sixth overall on the day.

The foil squad faced some of the best competition, entering with low seeding points. In the morning pool, sophomore Nicolas Drew was strong in his debut, going 5-1. Peter Ciccosanti stepped up in the afternoon with a 6-1 record. Squad captain Brenden Prefer added seven wins on the day in the difficult A position.

The Colts will now look ahead to the NJSIAA Districts on January 26th.
