Christian Brothers Academy broke a rare drought in outdoor track on Saturday afternoon. For the first time in four years, the Colts were crowned Non-Public A Outdoor State Champions at Egg Harbor Township High School.

CBA last won the Non-Public A championship back in 2012, being thwarted by Union Catholic each of the last three outdoor seasons.

But 2016 was a different story, as the Colts never let their foot off the gas, beating second place Union Catholic by 47 points to win the title.

A week after taking the Non-Public A South Sectional by winning nine events, Christian Brothers won six events during the state championships, with all the usual suspects taking home the top spots.

CBA's all-time leading points scorer, senior Mike Zupko, won his patented 400m dash with a time of 48.51.

The 4x400 team of Brendan Bodisch, Tim Jacoutot, Andrew Canale and Zupko won their event with a time of 3:19.51.

Senior Will Lutkewitte turned in another great performance with wins in both the shot put and the discus throw. Junior Drake Anzano continued his hot streak with wins in both the 800m and the 1600m.

CBA also finished second in both the 4x800 and 400m hurdles (Jacoutot), plus third place in the 110m hurdles (Jacoutot), 3200m (Brian Hill) and the pole vault (John Healy).

The win at the state championship qualifies CBA for the all-groups Meet of Champions, which will be held on Wednesday at Central Regional High School.
